Texas has many different programs created to regulate the cleanup of contaminated sites. Like the Industrial and Hazardous Waste Corrective Action Program, certain environmental programs and remediation approaches can fit a client’s goals depending on the type and level of contamination at the subject site, the client’s financial needs, and the plans for the site.
Ensuring that the public is not exposed to hazardous levels of chemicals by requiring mitigation or removal of the contamination to safe levels to human health and the environment is the main goal. Currently, the TCEQ’s Industrial And Hazardous Waste Corrective Action Program handles the regulatory oversight of cleanup actions for more than 1000 facilities in Texas.
Here is what to do:
• Ensure that sites are assessed and remediated to levels that protect human health and the environment
• Verify that waste management units or facilities are taken out of service and closed properly
• Facilitate revitalization of contaminated properties
